Admissions
Children are required to attend school from the start of the term following their fourth birthday. All of our new starters begin school in the September following their fourth birthday. After Christmas we begin our transition programme. This includes opportunities for the children to visit school, school staff visiting children in their nursery settings, home visits and parent information evenings. We have full week of transition in July where all of the children have the opportunity to come to school for the week and experience all aspects of school life. We have found that by investing in the transition process in the Summer term, children are ready and well-prepared to start school in September.
Admission applications are made to North Yorkshire Council who then allocate places and advise school and parents in the April prior to starting school.
If you are considering taking a school place at Knayton, you are warmly invited to visit us, meet the team and see our unique approach to learning. Please call our school office to make an appointment on 01845 537291 or e-mail us at:

Applying for an in-year place
An in-year application can be made at any time of the year. You can only apply up to a term in advance of the date you want the school place. The online form will only allow you to apply for the year group your child should be in according to your child's date of birth.
North Yorkshire will start working on applications around six weeks prior to your requested start date and our aim to process applications within 20 school days after that. However, if you apply very early, this may not apply as we can only start processing applications towards the end of term, as follows:

Admissions Arrangements for 2027-2028
Elevate Multi Academy Trust are the admissions authority for Knayton C of E Academy.
Elevate sets the admissions policy every year and works with the Local Authority’s Admissions Unit who co-ordinates places at all schools in North Yorkshire.
This applies to places when children would normally start school (the Reception Year) and to children who may join our academy after this time (for example, as the result of a house move).
We will be holding an Open Day for new parents of children starting in Reception 2027, in November.
If you would like to have a look around the Academy, please contact the office at admin@knaytonacademy.org.

If you live outside of North Yorkshire and want your child to go to a school in North Yorkshire, you must apply to your own local authority and they will inform us of your request.
Going to a school’s nursery does not guarantee your child a place at our academy.
Late applications may be considered after those submitted by the deadline, often when there are no places available, so it is important that you apply on-time.
The Right of Appeal
If your child is refused a place at your preferred school, you have the right to appeal
A form to appeal the decision can be obtained and returned from The Right of Appeal
The Appeal Clerks will coordinate an independent appeal hearing and keep you updated on the process.
What happens if the Academy is Oversubscribed?
Where schools are over-subscribed (i.e. where the number of applications exceeds the number of places available), places will be allocated using the following criteria, set out in our Admissions policy – see the link below.
In-Year Admissions
If your child is moving schools either during the school year or for the start of a new school year, then you will need to make an in-year application using the Local Authority’s Co-ordinated Admission Scheme for in-year admissions. Applications to start our school in-year should be made no earlier than one term before the place is required, and it is recommended that you apply no later than a period of twenty school days, that is 4 weeks in term time, before you wish for the place to be available for your child. The Local Authority will confirm the outcome of the application in writing within 15 school days. If the application is refused, the Local Authority will advise on the statutory appeal procedure. Details of the Co-ordinated Admission Scheme and how in-year applications are managed are available on this link
